Japan-India Workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction, 2018 was held on 19th and 20th March in 2018 at Vigyan Bhawan which was a premier convention centre of Government of India in New Delhi. VIP participants were H.E. Mr. Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Home Affairs, India, H.E. Mr. Mamoru Maekawa, Vice Minister, Cabinet Office, Japan, and H.E. Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu, Ambassador of Japan to India. Total number of participants was about 140 and about 90 from Indian side and 50 from Japanese side, and 60% of participants from Japanese side was occupied by JBP members. 29 people from 11 JBP members could manage to attend it even though it was in the busiest period in Japan due to the end of Japanese fiscal year.
　
The workshop focused on earthquake and tsunami, and many experts not only from Indian side but also from Japanese side did presentations. Dr. Naoshi Hirata, Professor, University of Tokyo, and Dr. Masumi Yamada, Assistant professor, Disaster Prevention Research Institute, University of Kyoto, from Japan attended the workshop and presented the latest condition of earthquake risk reduction activities in Japan.
　　　
The workshop was carried out by a large round-table style. 4 large monitors placed inside of the round-table which was enough for 70 people made all participants to easily understand presentations and to activate discussion.

After the workshop on the 1st day, participants from Japan side were invited to visit one of the world heritages in New Delhi, “Humayun's Tomb”, and in addition each JBP member company was given the opportunity to be taken a photo with three VIPs. 
　


The two hours session for private sector was scheduled in the afternoon of the 2nd day, and 9 members and JBP secretariat did the presentations. The policy for JBP members’ presentations was set to be output oriented by making the proposed project’s effects and costs very clear so that the proposal would be able to be implemented. Although JBP members’ presentations were strange due to being business oriented as such a governmental workshop, they could contribute to change the character of workshop from academic discussion to realistic discussion due to the excellent moderate made by Prof. Ravi Shinha, IIT Bombay.
　　　
Many of JBP members could find Indian key persons at the workshop because Indian participants came from various organizations. It was a very valuable opportunity for JBP members in terms of business operation.
　
The success of this workshop was highly due to the well preparation by National Disaster Management Authority India and Cabinet Office which arranged for JBP members various opportunities. We would like to sincerely express our thanks to Ministry of Home Affairs India, National Disaster Management Authority India and Cabinet Office for giving JBP members such a valuable opportunity.
