GIKEN LTD.

GIKEN was founded in 1967, during the high economic growth period in Japan, as a company to solve environmental pollution problems. At that time construction pollution was a serious social problem due to excessive noise and vibration, which piling machines generated by their reliance on percussive or vibratory energy. Taking the initiative in solving this problem, GIKEN discovered the "Press-in Principle" and invented the world's first "Press-in Machine" SILENT PILER™ to make the press-in principle practicable in the field, which utilizes reaction force derived from fully installed piles as a counterweight to hydraulically jack subsequent piles into the ground.

Since 1978, GIKEN has played a role of manufacturer of the press-in machines and engineering of the "Press-in Technologies", which provide solutions for disaster management especially against floods caused by typhoons as well as for rapid development of urban infrastructures. The birth place of the SILENT PILER, Kochi, was the place where repeatedly sustained damage from typhoons. Accordingly, GIKEN established the Implant™ method based on the success in over 36 countries worldwide and endless innovation for about 40 years, which is now essential for the advanced countermeasures against the forth-coming Nankai Megathrust Earthquakes in Kochi and other Japanese regions.
