Weathernews presented the latest utilization measures of weather information for DRR at the 2nd International Workshop on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (IWDRI2018) held in India.

The Indian government hosted the 2nd International Workshop on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (IWDRI2018) on 19th and 20th March at Taji Mahal, New Delhi. Mami Mizutori, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Disaster Risk Reduction attended this as co-organizer of UNISDR.  More than 400 people from all over the world gathered this workshop. Although this workshop was invitation only, 7 companies and 16 people from JBP members attended because the qualification was specially granted to JBP members.

The objectives of IWDRI 2019 were as follows.
1. Identify good practices of disaster risk management in key infrastructure sectors (Transport, Energy, Telecom and Water);
2. Identify specific areas and pathways for collaborative research on DRI;
3. Discuss and co-create the broad contours of the CDRI as well as a notional rollout plan for the next three years; and
4. Build a forum for members to work on areas of common interest and make specific commitments.

Various sessions were organized during two day workshop. In the session of “Emerging Technologies and Innovation / Digital Technologies” Mr. Daisuke Abe, Weathernews, presented the latest various utilization examples of weather information for DRR in Japan as the private sector’s business activity.
In addition, Mr. Masaaki Ito, Ishigaki Corporation, presented “Flood Buster”, new model water discharge pumps, which can be installed at the existing tributaries.

Mr. Sanny Jegillos, who attended JBP’s gathering in this January, spoke the importance of engagement with the private sector at the panel discussion of Multilateral Agencies with mentioning the ongoing collaboration activities with JBP, Fujitsu, and Challenge.

It was found that this workshop was very a good opportunity for JBP and member companies not only for dissemination of their DRR technologies and products but also for creating networking.
